Alternative Antigone

(a white room with reflected light bouncing off the walls in unison, Creon confronts Antigone)

Creon:

It seems a little birdie told me someone was digging up the marrow.

Creon:

We cannot have that, can we Ms. Antigone?

(Creon glares at Antigone to his displeasure)

Antigone:

It is ludicrous to think you of all people can dictate how to take care of a loved one, Creon.

Creon:

I am afraid that order is above everything, Antigone.

Creon:

If it were not for your wretched brother, he would be right here with you right now not wasting my time.

(Antigone clenches her fists in anger, getting closer to Creon)

Antigone:

Let me tell you something: my brother is not sinful man, he treated everyone with respect, and made sure corrupted individuals like yourself kept out of our affairs.

Antigone:

For you to rewrite him like a villain, says a lot about you, Creon.

Antigone:

He was the only one in this god-forsaken society that could stand on his own two feet.

Antigone:

Heaven forbids, Hades going to the enemies and becoming a hero. Yet when my brother is lead to his death from an environment where no one could care less, his own sibling cannot bury him?

(A cold air strikes from Antigone’s back side. Creon smiles in grimace)

Creon:

Yes, you see there are a lot of things you do not understand. And from your grotesque verbiage you understand even less.

Creon:

We do not give equal honors to wicked men.

Creon:

Polynices understood this when he carelessly went to enemy territory without the council’s permission.

Creon:

He did not die for credence, he died for pride.

Creon:

A man who is willing to put himself over the collective good is not worth saving, better yet worth remembering.

Creon:

The collective good cannot depend on individuals who cannot support the wheelbarrow lose their dependability to do good by others.

Antigone:

You are wrong, he—

Creon:

I grow bored from this tiring conversation.

Creon:

You either stop digging up the corpse, or the council will handle you accordingly.

Creon:

This is my final warning.

(Dusk fall came and Creon left with the cold win drifting behind him)

Antigone:

By gods damn you, Creon.

(Antigone holds her face in confusion and frustration)
